November 5 is National Redhead Day, and it’s every redhead’s chance to shine with each gorgeous strand of their hair, as seen in these images (below).
Redheads are often treated like the odd man (or woman) out, as they possess the rarest of hair colors.
Plus, redheads are described as “fiery” and “hot-tempered.”
If you have red hair, today is your day to be however way you want!
Redheads, also known as ‘ginger’s, after the character on Gilligan’s Island, first appeared as the result of a genetic mutation with the first documented case of natural-born redhead occurring in Scotland.
Less than 2% of the world’s population have red hair, and Scotland boasts the highest percentage of natural redheads while Ireland comes in second.
Natural redheads are rare, and the gene is recessive, meaning both parents must each be carrying the recessive gene for their child to have red hair.
Natural red hair is less likely to go gray and a redhead’s ability to produce a pheomelanin also allows them to have a higher resistance to pain.
So for all those natural redheads- you are extremely rare, and although National Redhead Appreciation Week is still a ways off, here are a few redheads as seen by Paul Goulding Photography in Chipley, Florida.
