This week the Chipley Kiwanis Club opened their doors to new members willing to commit to attending one nightly meeting a month and supporting the various projects undertaken by the main club.
Chipley Kiwanis Club President Brandon Lovering said longtime Kiwanians are well aware of the demands placed on families these days and are interested in giving those interested in joining the club an opportunity to help their community while participating in a variety of community projects. He announced at the inaugural meeting Jan. 23rd that the newly formed satellite club will meet the third Tuesday of each month at Skins & Bubba’s Restaurant on Hwy 77 in Chipley at 5:15 p.m.
“We are Kiwanians because we want to do something for our community,” said Lovering. “And, we want to give others that the same opportunity.”
Washington County Commissioner Tray Hawkins, also a Kiwanian, was the guest speaker Tuesday night and took the opportunity to bring those attending the club meeting an update on governmental activities impacting the area.
Hawkins stressed the current Board of County Commissioners is working with local municipalities to stimulate economic growth throughout Washington County, bring in more jobs, bringing county roads up to better standards, and is moving toward getting needed utilities in place.
