The Partnership feels Proposal 94 will shift money from Florida’s successful tobacco prevention programs to cancer research.

The Partnership feels their work to fund Tobacco Free Florida is under attack! They say earlier this month, the Finance and Taxation Committee of the Constitution Revision Commission (CRC) voted in favor of Proposal 94 to reallocate 20% of all future funding earmarked for the state’s Tobacco Free Florida program to cancer research. The proposal now heads to the full commission for a vote.

The Partnership has taken the position that Proposal 94 is unnecessary because the Florida Legislature can currently designate any amount of tobacco tax revenue that they choose for Florida’s two biomedical research programs.

Pushing to defeat the measure, Partnership members say Smokeless Tobacco rates in Washington County are still higher than the state average and Electronic (E-CIt) use is steadily increasing.

The Tobacco Free Partnership is asking for Washington County residents to speak out in opposition to Prop 94 and let the Constitution Revision Commission know their feelings on the issue.
