Lana Bush recognized as ‘Sunshine Scholar’ at School Board meeting ……………

Board sets three workshops, one on school safety.

Members of the Washington County School Board led off their March 12th meeting with the recognition of Vernon High School Junior Lana Bush as the 2018 Sunshine Scholar. 

 

They congratulated Bush (shown at the right with School Superintendent Joe Taylor) for receiving the honor and pointed out her 4.6-grade point average, as well as the 100 hours of community service she has offered her community.

 

In separate action, the Board set the following workshops:

  •  March 27th – Hope School
  •  April 2nd at 4 p.m. – School Safety
  •  April 9th at 4 p.m. – Teacher Graduate Tuition   Reimbursement;  followed by regular Board     Meeting at 5 p.m.

 

 

 

 

 

Sally Brock, a teacher at Vernon High School, was present at the meeting to question the allocation of the Carter Trust Fund monies over the past several years.  She raised the question of how the funds are handled and School Superintendent Joe Taylor promised to have answers to her questions by the April School Board meeting.

 

 

The Washington County School Board also took the following actions during Monday night’s meeting:

 

  •  Approved payment of monthly bills.
  •  Approved minutes of Feb. 12th Workshop and Regular Board meeting and Feb. 26th Executive Session.
  •  Approved Vernon High School ROTC out-of-state travel to Valdosta, Georgia on May 5th.
  •  Approved contractual agreement between Florida Panhandle Technical College and Marianna Health & Rehabilitation Center.
  •  Approved Scope of Services between Florida Panhandle Technical College and the Florida Department of Corrections.
  •  Approved purchase of District vehicle.
  •  Approved the retirement of Adel Roche, food service, effective May 29, 2018.
  •  Approved employment of Mariah Dodd, behavior analyst, effective April 6, 2018.
  •  Approved Sheryl Jones-Capps, AVID tutor, effective March 12, 2018.
  •  Approved resignation of Wendy Williams, financial aid officer at FPTC effective March 30, 2018.
  •  Approved resignation of Bridgette Forward, a paraprofessional at KSES, effective March 2, 2018.
  •  Approved employment of Sheryl Jones-Capps, a paraprofessional at Roulhac Middle School, retroactive Feb. 20, 2018.
  •  Approved employment of Jarrett Segers, a paraprofessional at Roulhac Middle School, effective March 13, 2018.
  •  Approved resignation of Cynthia Zabell, bus driver, effective Jan. 19, 2018.
  •  Approved employment of Samuel Brandy, a mechanic at the Vernon Bus Garage, effective Feb. 8, 2018.
