The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reports that four Vernon, Florida residents, and one South Carolina resident were injured in a March 12th crash on State Road 77 and State Road 2 in Bay County on March 12th.
According to the FHP, a 2007 Hyundai driven by Alexander Geiger, 53 of Vernon, was traveling south on SR 77 while a vehicle driven by Katherine Renken, 33 of Columbia, South Carolina, was attempting to travel east on SR 20.
According to witnesses, Renken was stopped at the intersection waiting for the traffic control signal to turn green and when that happened she began to enter the intersection. However, Geiger failed to stop at the red light. This action caused the front right of the Hyundai to collide with the front left of Renken’s vehicle. Renken’s vehicle then rotated clockwise. Geiger’s vehicle came to final rest in the outside lane of SR 77 facing south. Renken’s vehicle came to final rest in the inside lane of SR 77 facing south.
Geiger was charged with failure to stop at a red traffic control device.
Listed as injured in the accident were Alexander Geiger, Annette Geiger, Maria Geiger and a one-year-old infant.
