Commissioners Abbott, Charles Kent, and Tray Hawkins were at the Washington County Recycling Center Saturday morning to assist county employees in receiving the wide variety of hazardous waste items brought in for disposal.

Commissioner Tray Hawkins said Washington County is making a concerted effort to get the county cleaned up – from properly disposing of hazardous waste to cleaning up unwanted household items just dumped along the roadways.

Commissioners have even gone so far as to declare an amnesty period for those with liens against their property where materials have just been dumped.  County property owners have until June 1st to get those properties cleaned up and at that time the existing liens will be dropped, if the property has been cleaned up.
