Washington County Commissioner Tray Hawkins, Anderson Columbia & City of Vernon Repair Vernon Elementary School Recreation Facilities

On Tuesday morning, March 20, 2018, Washington County, Florida Commission Chair Tray Hawkins put on his private sector hat and met with representatives from Anderson Columbia and Public Works personnel from the City of Vernon to repair the recreation facilities at Vernon Elementary School.

‘In a short period of time, and using donated labor and materials inclusive of clay, fill dirt and drain culverts, we worked to effect some much-needed repairs on the campus of Vernon Elementary School’, said Hawkins, ‘and the students will now be able to enjoy a fresh, dry schoolyard and track when they come back from Spring Break’.

Scheduled activities include the annual ‘Spring Fling’ at VES over the next few weeks, and the work donated by Hawkins’ firm John Hawkins Telecommunications, along with partner Anderson Columbia, and with help from workers from the City of Vernon, will allow the elementary school students the ability to better access and enjoy the track and campus.

‘There is a constant need for maintenance to these areas’, says Hawkins, ‘especially following the kinds of torrential rains we have been having lately, and hopefully the school grounds will be a little safer and more enjoyable now’.

The work included the donation of labor by J.H. Telecommunications and Anderson Columbia, along with materials, grading of the area and installation of drainage pipes, and an overall cleaning up of the area.

Elected in 2016, Hawkins has worked with the Washington County Board of Commissioner in cutting through red tape and bureaucracy, simplifying county systems and making aspects of county government easier to navigate for citizens.

When campaigning for the Commission office, Hawkins promised to work as hard once elected to help save money, increase efficiency and make Washington County a better place to live, and he has been putting his money where his mouth is to make that happen.

‘I am proud to represent my County and I am working to make sure that we get exactly what we need to make our lives better, safer and more productive’, finished Hawkins.
