Vernon, Florida Elementary School Successfully Holds Annual ‘Field Day’ on Thursday, March 29, 2018 Under Sunny Skies and Watchful Eyes

The school yards at Vernon Elementary School in Vernon, Florida was filled with squeals of delight and grunts of exertion as children from Kindergarten, First and Second Grades participated in their annual ‘Field Day’ on Thursday, March 29, 2018.

The staff of ‘Real Florida Magazine’ was invited to join in the fun, always a raucous good time, and the event was executed from 9:30AM until 1:30PM, with a lunch break in the middle.

Washington County Commission Chairman Tray Hawkins attended the event with his wife and children, students at the school, along with Washington County School Board member Susan Roberts.

‘This is a wonderful opportunity to allow these kids to burn off some energy and enjoy this beautiful Spring weather’, said Hawkins between loud competitive events featuring relay races, tub-o-war and other agility events designed to allow creativity and build team spirit.

The day was indeed beautiful, probably some of the best weather experienced in Northwest Florida this year, and parents and well-wishers joined in the cheering and words of encouragement for their favorite competitors on the field.

Hawkins’ firm John Hawkins Telecommunications, along with Anderson Columbia and the City of Vernon last week spent part of a day rebuilding the play fields at the Vernon Elementary School in preparation for this event, and the work paid off.

‘We are plagued by drainage problems and normal wear and tear caused by our weather’, said Hawkins, ‘and with a little bit of material and some manpower, we were able to get these fields in a safe playing condition during Spring Break’.

The day was exciting and full of promise as aspiring athletes won prizes for their respective events and a good time was had by all, as seen in these photos by Paje Menfi and Debbie Goulding for Real Florida Media, a subsidiary of The Goulding Agency in Chipley, Florida.
