Washington County, Florida Council on Aging Annual ‘Senior Expo’ on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Washington County Ag Center A Huge Success

By | April 24, 2018

In what was considered by many of those attending as the single best event of its kind in recent memory, the Washington County, Florida ‘Senior Expo’, executed by the Council on Aging, was well-attended on Tuesday, April 24, 2018, as seen in these photos by Real Florida Media, a subsidiary of The Goulding Agency in Chipley, Florida.

From 10AM until 1PM, local seniors were treated to haircuts, manicures, health screenings, lunch, and lots of giveaways, at the Washington County Ag Center on Highway 90 in Chipley, Florida.

The event, embraced by the health programs at nearby Florida Panhandle Technical College, which utilized the event to give free haircuts to the seniors, courtesy of the FPTC Cosmetology Program, and to screen the seniors for health issues, utilizing students from the Practical Nursing and Patient Care Technology Programs, has been around for a decade, but today’s event was one of the best yet.

‘We learn something each year, and try to provide services to this welcoming audience’, said Shanda Bruner, Instructor of the FPTC Cosmetology Program.

‘We really want to pamper these folks when they come to this event, so from hair to nails, we get to treat them, as well as get some practical experience for our students, and we appreciate the opportunity’, finishes Bruner.

Washington County Commissioner Todd Abbott was in attendance at the event, as was Tracy Andrews, City of Chipley Councilperson, and both expressed approval of the event, attendees and impact on the community.

‘We need more of these kinds of opportunities to pamper our seniors’, said Tracy Andrews, between discussions about current events with attendees.

Todd Abbott made use of the time meeting and greeting the guests of honor, ‘Evening events sometimes are a challenge for these folks to attend, and a daytime event such as this allows these seniors to get out to enjoy the services available here’.
