Part 1 of ‘Photography 101’ Offered at Florida Panhandle Technical College for Beginner, Intermediate & Drone Photographers on Wednesday, May 2, 2018

‘I was intrigued by the class when I first heard about it, and although I have been scheduled for meetings on the class nights thus far, I intend to join the class as soon as my schedule allows’, said Washington County Superintendent of Schools Joe Taylor in reference to the “Photography 101” class at Florida Panhandle Technical College in downtown Chipley.

“Photography 101” is a two-part program, with the first session addressing the basics of digital photography, taking control of your camera in Manual Mode, and shooting with purpose.

The series of classes, designed to demystify photography and offer real-world understanding of the process of digital photography, has enjoyed a huge response from the community, and Beginner to Intermediate photographers who want to take control of their DSLR cameras, as well as Drone operators, will find this entry-level exploration of the digital process instructive and enlightening.

‘We were very pleased with the response from area photographers at our inaugural “Photography 101” class last week’, said Martha Compton, Director of Florida Panhandle Technical College on Hoyt Street in Chipley, ‘and we will be again offering the same class, for those who were unable to attend, on Wednesday, May 2, 2018’.

‘We had around 40 persons respond to the initial offering’, said Compton, ‘and we had 20 attend the first class on Wednesday evening.  The curriculum helps explain the mysteries of shooting in Manual Mode while aggressively encouraging attendees to step outside their comfort zone, and the response has been very positive’.

Designed to allow the public to participate outside of normal class hours, on evenings and weekends, the series of instructional sessions is taught by adjunct professionals, and each part of the ‘Photography 101’ class lasts around 3 hours, at a cost of $25 per session.

‘We will repeat Part One of the class this week, Wednesday, May 2’, says Compton, ‘in order to accommodate those who could not attend last week, and Part Two of the class, which will be open to those who have completed Part One, will be offered next week’.

The second session of “Photography 101” addresses using Manual Mode in real-world conditions, ambient and artificial lighting, challenges of high-speed and low-light photography, the basics of portraiture and landscapes, as well as hands-on work in the studio and exterior locations.

Together, Part One and Part Two of “Photography 101” address the beginner and intermediate photographer, and include best practices for photo and video.

‘This two-part series is our entry-level photography class’, said Compton, ‘and is a great starting point for anyone ready to buy their first DSLR camera, for Beginners who want to step up their game and start shooting in Manual Mode, or for Intermediate Photographers to obtain a refresher course in these basic concepts, presented in a fresh, entertaining format’.

Upcoming advanced, in-depth classes will offer an overview of the basics of processing your images in the Adobe suite programs, including Photoshop, Lightroom and Premiere Pro, with specialized sessions focusing on high-speed and sports photography, Drone photo and video, studio and street photography, low-light photography, retouching, color correction and video editing.

A class geared toward Real Estate professionals will be announced soon, allowing those persons a better understanding of photography in general, with an emphasis on wide-angle shooting, best lighting practices for small spaces, a drone photography overview as well as how to best process images for use in the Real Estate marketplace.

Part One of the two-part ‘Photography 101″ class will be offered on Wednesday,  May 2, 2018 at 5PM in the Learning Resource Center on the campus of Florida Panhandle Technical College in downtown Chipley, at a cost of $25, and will last approximately 3 hours.

Florida Panhandle Technical College does not accept checks, so attendees will have to pay in cash on the night of class, and should plan to arrive early to complete registration paperwork at the Learning Resource Center.
