Amanda Brannon, Victim Service Provider with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, presented the program at Tuesday’s meeting of the Chipley Kiwanis Club and explained the programs available to crime victims in Washington County.

Victim advocates are professionals trained to support victims of crime. Advocates offer victims information, emotional support, and help to find resources and filling out paperwork. Sometimes, advocates go to court with victims. Advocates may also contact organizations, such as criminal justice or social service agencies, to get help or information for victims.

Working as a victim’s advocate, Brannon said she works directly with victims of sexual assault and elderly abuse, as well as other crimes, and then directs them to needed services.  She also helps victims with victim compensation applications and can be reached at 638-6633.

Also as part of Tuesday’s program, Lovering also presented representatives of the 2018 Washington-Holmes Relay For Life with a check in the amount of $850 that was raised by Kiwanis Club members.

In another portion of the meeting, Lovering reminded members about the following upcoming special events planned by the club.

  •  May 15th Satellite Club Meeting at 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at Skins & Bubba’s Restaurant in Chipley.

  •  June Golf Tournament at the Sunny Hills Country Club.

  •  Aug. 11th Gala fundraiser being held at the Ag Center in Chipley (details are being tweaked).
