Part 2 of ‘Photography 101’ was held at Florida Panhandle Technical College in Chipley, Florida on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, with a full class drawing from the over 40 attendees attending the Part 1 sessions over the past couple of weeks.

Participants shot their DSLR cameras in challenging conditions outside on the campus grounds as well as inside ‘Studio B’, the FPTC studio and sound stage, working with differing lighting conditions and backgrounds.

Averaging around 20 beginner and intermediate photographers at each session, the Part 1 classes of ‘Photography 101’ were met with approval and good reviews, with attendees expressing thanks to the college and coming away with renewed interest in their DSLR cameras and a fresh outlook for creativity.

‘This is a great opportunity for people in this area’, said Tanya Branton of Chipley on Wednesday evening’s Part 2 session, ‘and I am going to recommend this class to my friends who need a refresher or are beginners and need some help understanding shooting in Manual Mode’.

‘Ordinarily we would have to drive a long distance to neighboring schools for this kind of instruction’, Branton continued, ‘but having the ability to attend tight here in Chipley is great’.

‘We are pleased with the response to this offering’, said Martha Compton, Director of Florida Panhandle Technical College, ‘and we have had great attendance at all the classes’.

‘The curriculum helps explain the mysteries of shooting in Manual Mode while aggressively encouraging attendees to step outside their comfort zone, and the response has been very positive’, says Compton.

The series of classes, designed to demystify photography and offer real-world solutions to the process of digital photography, has enjoyed a huge response from the region, inclusive of several counties, and Beginner to Intermediate photographers who want to take control of their DSLR cameras, as well as Drone operators, will find this entry-level exploration of the digital process instructive and enlightening.

Designed to allow the public to participate outside of normal class hours, on evenings and weekends, the series of instructional sessions is taught by adjunct professionals, and each session of the ‘Photography 101’ classes last 3 hours, at a cost of $25.

‘This is our entry-level photography class’, said Compton, ‘and is a great starting point for anyone ready to buy their first DSLR camera, for Beginners who want to step up their game and start shooting in Manual Mode, or for Intermediate Photographers to obtain a refresher course in these basic concepts, presented in a fresh, entertaining format’.

The next Part 1 class of ‘Photography 101’ is scheduled for Thursday, May 10, 2018 at 5PM in the Learning Resource Center on the campus of Florida Panhandle Technical College in downtown Chipley, at a cost of $25, and will last approximately 3 hours.

Addressing the basics of digital photography, taking control of your camera in Manual Mode, shooting with purpose, utilizing ambient and artificial lighting, and the challenges of sports and high-speed photography, the curriculum addresses beginner and intermediate users, and includes best practices for photo and video.

Subsequent advanced, in-depth classes offer an overview of the basics of processing your images in the Adobe suite programs, including Photoshop, Lightroom and Premiere Pro, with specialized sessions focusing on high-speed and sports photography, aerial images, studio and street photography, retouching, color correction and video editing.

A class geared toward Real Estate professionals will be announced soon, allowing those persons a better understanding of photography in general, with an emphasis on wide-angle shooting, best lighting practices for small spaces, a drone photography overview as well as how to best process images for use in the Real Estate marketplace.

Upcoming classes will soon be announced which include special focus on Drone photo and video, sports photography, low-light photography, color-correcting, retouching and video editing.

Florida Panhandle Technical College does not accept checks, so attendees will have to pay in cash on the night of class, and should plan to arrive early to complete registration paperwork at the Learning Resource Center.
