Wausau Town Council members voted Thursday night to locate their new fire station on 2nd Street across from the Town Hall.

While construction won’t begin for immediately, council members have spent the past few months looking at locations for the proposed construction project and made their final decision at their May 10th meeting.
Dewberry Engineers brought information on both of the town-owned sites and addressed issues raised by both council members and members of the Wausau Volunteer Fire Department.
The Town of Wausau has been awarded a Community Development Block Grant for more than $900,000 for construction of the new fire station.

In a move to bring fast, reliable broadband internet to the Wausau area, council members voted to support an application by Point Broadband of the Panhandle to seek federal grant funding to assist bringing in the needed service.
Mike McCollom, with PBBPH, explained that if the grant funding comes to fruition the firm would provide free equipment to bring internet service into the Town Hall six days a week to provide a location for area residents to come to access internet service.
Point Broadband was described as a wireless internet service provider offering high-speed broadband access to residents in Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi. Headquartered in West Point, Georgia and a proud subsidiary of TIC Captial Partners LLC (ITC). ITC has a century-long history of providing innovative communication solutions to its customers, with a focus on serving the communities where its customers live. ITC has been successful in building, owning, and operating wireless networks and broadband businesses over many years.

Dealing with other agenda items at the meeting, council members took the following action:
- Approved a web design proposal submitted by John Warren, LLC.
- Approved applying for a two month extension of time on a Capital City Bank load on FRDAP to give the Town time to receive funds from the State.
- Approved Resolution No. 18-002 establishing a cross-connection control program for the Wausau water system. The Florida Administrative Code requires that each community water system establish and implement a cross-connection control program utilizing backflow protection at or for service connections in order to protect the community water system from contamination caused by cross connections on customer’s premises.
