MARIANNA, Fla. – Yesterday, Governor Rick Scott visited the National Guard Armory in Marianna and awarded 89 veterans with the Governor’s Veterans Service Medal. Since 2013, Governor Scott has awarded nearly 14,000 veterans with the Governor’s Veterans Service Medal.
The following Florida veteran was highlighted during today’s ceremony:
Sergeant Christopher L. Gilley is a 17-year Florida Army National Guard Veteran who has served in various positions within the United States Army and the Florida Army National Guard. He has served under several state missions, including, most recently, Hurricane Irma response. Sergeant Gilley has also served under two federal mobilizations, one to support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and another in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal after both mobilizations. Today, Sergeant Gilley continues to serve within the United States Army and the Florida Army National Guard.
