Whether it’s bringing attention to Falling Waters State Park (with the only waterfall in Florida), the Wolf Preserve, Sunshine Riding Stables, or boating, fishing and other recreational activities available in the county, the TDC board works hard to bring a positive focus on Washington County and attract more tourists – which in turn helps the local economy.
Fuqua informed the TDC board members there will soon be a name change for the organization which will be rebranded as Riverway South – Exploring Northwest Florida. She said the move will bring more positive attention to the rural counties that make up the Riverway South which includes Washington, Holmes, and Walton counties.
Bill Maphis, chairman of the Washington County TDC board, expressed appreciation for the attention Riverway South is focusing on rural counties of the Florida Panhandle.
Washington County Library Director Renae Rountree also met with the TDC board members to explain the Home Town Heroes exhibit which will be coming to Chipley Oct. 1st – Nov. 9th. She said the Washington County Public Library has been selected by the Florida Humanities Council to host the Smithsonian Museum on Main Street exhibit for six weeks. Rountree said the Library system will present six programs during the exhibit, along with open hours for touring exhibit while it is in Chipley. She requested $1,500 in grant funding from the TDC to bring the Home Town Heroes exhibit to Chipley.
Dealing with agenda items during Monday’s workshop and the meeting that followed, TDC board members touched on the following items:
- Received an update on the Dixie Pre-Majors event that will be held in Chipley on Tuesday – Wednesday, July 31st – Aug. 1st. The board was informed that 55 rooms have been reserved at local motels for players and those accompanying them.
