The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) has reported that 12-year-old Cason Hatcher of Marianna, has died of injuries sustained earlier this week in an ATV crash in Jackson County.  Michael Riley Torbett, 17, of Marianna, a passenger in the ATV, also died of injuries sustained in the accident.

According to the FHP report, Hatcher was the driver of a Polaris Ranger that was eastbound on Ontario Road in Jackson County at the time of the accident and a 1997 Dodge Avenger, driven by William Glenn Haney, 18, of Marianna, was northbound on Martin Road.  As the ATV approached the intersection of Martin Road the driver failed to stop at the stop sign.  The front of the Dodge collided with the right side of the ATV and that vehicle began to overturn.  The ATV overturned onto private property on the east shoulder of Martin Road.

The ATV came to final rest on private property facing south.  That vehicle then caught fire and was totally destroyed.

The Dodge traveled onto the east shoulder of Martin Road and the front of that vehicle collided with a ditch, before traveling onto private property on the east shoulder of the roadway.

A female passenger in the Dodge received minor injuries in the incident.

The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Jackson County EMS and Fire Rescue.
