Is Your Lawn Drowning?

A healthy lawn is a joy to stroll, relax and play on. It can also be part of an environmentally friendly landscape. But, sometimes it can seem to be a mystery on how to achieve that lush, healthy lawn in the Florida environment.  The answer isn’t always to irrigate more. In fact, overwatering your lawn can lead to more following problems!  Read on to find out how to properly irrigate!

Wild Azaleas

The unique, and very pleasant, environment of north Florida is an excellent example of near perfection on a localized basis.  The weather (within reason), the fauna and the flora are tailored to a superior quality of life, especially the spring blooming native plants.  Florida’s native azaleas fit this bill and are awesome plants for Panhandle gardeners.  Click here to read more about them.

Invasive Species Workshop and Air Potato Challenge June 6th Panama City!

June 6th is a great day to learn about all types of invasive species that threaten natural areas in Northwest Florida!  The UF/IFAS Extension Bay County office will have multiple educational exhibits with living samples of species of concern at this multi-agency effort to inform citizens about the impact of invasive plants and animals and how they can help reduce introduction and spread.  For more information on this exciting upcoming program, click here!

Saturday, June 2, 9 am   The Getting Your Landscape Ready for Hurricane Season program will be held at the UF/IFAS Extension Wakulla County Office on June 2, 2018, starting at 9:00 a.m. This informational program is open to landscape professionals, arborist, as well as homeowners and area resident.

The four hour program will provide tips, techniques and tools for minimizing the likelihood of home or commercial landscapes being damage or causing damage during the upcoming hurricane season. Particular emphasis will be placed on identifying and mitigating threats before the storm strikes.

The cost of the program is $10 for home owners and $35 for arborist and landscape professionals. The additional expense will include four FNGLA continuing educational units (CEU’s) and three International Society of Arborist CEU’s plus lunch.

Advance registration is recommended, but walk-in participants will be admitted if space is available.

Saturday, June 9, 10 am – 3 pm   The FAMU Farm Fest promotes public awareness of the full scope of the “land-grant concept” in education which embraces teaching, research and extension (outreach) at Florida A&M University. Local farmers, producers, and families in the Big Bend and surrounding counties are invited to attend this event, which will be both educational and entertaining. Farm Fest is family-friendly; and adults and children will enjoy the workshops, garden and farm tours, kitchen mixology class and our first FAMU CEP BBQ University-Grill Master Class (separate charge).  The event will be held at the FAMU Research and Extension Center, 4259 Bainbridge Highway, Quincy, FL 32352.  The cost of the program is $5 for adults 18+, Kids and Seniors may attend for free.
