GRAND JUNCTION, CO—The Chipola College baseball team plays again in the NJCAA National Tournament, Thursday, May 31, at 7:30 p.m. MST.
Chipola faces the winner of Wednesday’s game between Walters State and The College of Southern Idaho. If Chipola wins Thursday, there will be a coin toss to see who advances to the final game. The loser of the toss will have to play another game to get into the championship. When Chipola plays Thursday, there will be only 3 teams remaining in the tournament.
It took 10 innings for Chipola to beat Iowa Western 14-13 on May 29. Morgan McCullough was 3 for 4 with 5 RBI. Jordan Hollins was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Three Indians homered: McCullough, Alex Webb, and Julio Carrion. Andrew Grogan pitched to 28 batters in the first 4 innings, but Jared Howell earned the win with 2.2 innings.
On May 28, Chipola trounced Temple 17-5 in a run-rule shortened 5 inning game. Edmond Americaan was 4 for 4 with 5 RBI and a home run. Morgan McCullough was 3 for 3 with a home run. Jack Dellinger earned the pitching win with 7 strikeouts and 5 earned runs in 5 innings.
Chipola scored a 10-8 win over Barton in their second game on May 27. Jared Howell picked up the win with 2.2 innings. Phillip Sanderson was the starting pitcher with 29 batters faced in 6.1 innings of work. Edmond Americaan was 3 for 5 with 3 RBI and a home run. Max Guzman and Jared Howell also homered.
The Indians started the tournament with an 8-6 loss to top-ranked Walters State on May 26. Andrew Grogan started on the mound for Chipola giving up 3 runs on 7 hits. Trevor Holloway was charged with the loss. With 2 earned runs in 2.2 innings. Jonathon Nieves had a home run for Chipola. Morgan McCullough was 3 for 3.
