I served as a reservist Naval Intelligence Officer from 1968 to 1983, some of the most dangerous years of Cold War threats by the Soviet Union. I was a Soviet Navy analyst supporting the Director of Naval Intelligence and retired as a Lieutenant Commander.
In those years, I worked with intelligence professionals from virtually every agency, not just the Navy. I grew to respect and admire their expertise and patriotism.
They also had the confidence of five different U.S. Commanders-in-Chief during those years. Not one of those Presidents questioned the competence or patriotism of these professionals.
In those years, I was proud to be part of the defense of our nation. Once in Congress, I will proudly continue to defend our nation – and speak out whenever our nation is threatened – as I am speaking out today.
Tell Congress to act against Russian Meddling in our elections.
I have this to say:
I am ashamed that our Commander-in-Chief expressed such weakness in the presence of Vladimir Putin.
By dismissing our intelligence findings and embracing the lies of the dictator of Russia – who today undermines our democracy and national security – our President threatens the safety of all Americans – and especially of our armed forces.
This is not what Commanders-in-Chief have sworn to do.
At this point in history, this is no time for weakness. And make no mistake, the silence of Neal Dunn and other Congressional Republicans displays their own weakness.
For Dunn, it is also putting party before country. How else to explain his call in January with other Republican colleagues to undermine the ongoing investigation of Russian interference?
The citizens of District 2 – and our nation – deserve better.
In becoming your Congressman, I will not fail you. And I surely will not fail the men and women of our intelligence community and our armed forces.
Sign my petition: Tell Congress to step up and protect the 2018 Midterm Elections.
Proudly serving,
Bob Rackleff
