This tall wildflower (Hibiscus moscheutos) grows in marshes and wet roadsides.

 

The flowers are seven to nine inches across with a crimson base.

 

The leaves are also large.

 

It blooms from June through September, often in large showy groups.

 

It dies back in the winter and resprouts in the spring.
