This week, we continue to mourn the loss of Officer Adam Jobbers-Miller of the Fort Myers Police Department. Officer Jobbers-Miller lost his life Saturday, a week after being shot by a monster while on duty. He dedicated his life to protecting Floridians—he died a hero. I ask that we all continue to pray for his family and our entire law enforcement community.

Monday was World Day Against Trafficking in Persons and an opportunity to stand with leaders worldwide against human trafficking. The devastating realities of this horrific crime throughout the world deserve our full attention and united condemnation. You can help by knowing how to spot human trafficking and by registering for the 2018 Florida Human Trafficking Summit.I will host the summit on Oct. 1, along with the Statewide Council on Human Trafficking, the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, the Florida Department of Children and Families and the University of Central Florida. Florida is home to outstanding citizens who aim to end human trafficking, and I encourage everyone to nominate heroes in this fight.

This year’s summit will honor citizens in four categories: Survivor Advocate of the Year, Community Advocate of the Year, Prosecutor of the Year, and Law Enforcement Official of the Year. Nominations are due by Sept. 3. For more information on the nomination process, click here.

Court Action Taken Against Fort Myers Furniture Store

Attorney General Pam Bondi filed a court action in Fort Myers against a furniture store for deceptively marketing and selling furniture and mattresses to Florida consumers, many of whom are senior citizens. Fort Myers Convertibles, d/b/a Sofa Beds and Recliners Unlimited, and its owners, Lane Granitstein and Jeffrey Granitstein, allegedly deceived consumers out of more than $75,000.The defendants allegedly misled consumers regarding the status of orders made and strung consumers along for months at a time with a series of excuses and false promises of future delivery. Although the defendants often blamed delays on the suppliers, the complaint alleges that merchandise was ready to be shipped but the delays arose primarily because the defendants failed to pay the suppliers. More.
