CHICAGO – August 7, 2018 – The Florida Hospital Association (FHA) Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN) has received the American Hospital Association (AHA)/Health Research & Educational Trust’s (HRET) High Performance Award. The award, which was presented recently at AHA’s Leadership Summit, recognizes the significant progress participating hospitals have made toward the goals of reducing harm by 20 percent and readmissions by 12 percent across 14 key areas.
For the past two years, 93 Florida hospitals have worked together under the leadership of FHA on a number of initiatives focused on key areas, such as reducing infections, preventing falls, increasing medication safety and improving safety for hospital workers. The award also honors outstanding achievement in creating a culture of patient safety, delivering value and executing evidence-based practices as part of day-to-day operations.
“We applaud Florida hospitals for their remarkable efforts supporting the delivery of world-class patient care. Their results are further evidence that hospitals and health systems are advancing positive outcomes for patients and that the future of health care is bright,” said Marie Cleary Fishman, vice president, clinical quality, HRET.
The HRET HIIN, brings together 1,700 hospitals in 34 states to share best practices and learn from one another. The program is the third phase of a national initiative supported by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and led nationally by HRET to improve hospital care. From 2012-2016 under the first phases of work called the Partnership for Patients Hospital Engagement Network (HEN), FHA HEN members prevented 31,000 instances of harm and saved $200 million in costs.
“Safe, quality patient care is our top priority, and this award recognizes the daily efforts of Florida’s hospitals to provide the best possible care to all patients,” said Bruce Rueben, FHA president. “We’re honored to be nationally recognized for our efforts. This work is ongoing, but we’re on the right path to better, safer care. That means better value and better health for all we serve.”
