Obituary for Shirley Simmons …………………..

By | August 10, 2018

Shirley Simmons, affectionately known as Meme, age 75, of Alford, Florida, passed away Thursday, August 9, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family.

She enjoyed hunting for a bargain, collecting knick-knacks and rocks, working in her yard, riding her golf cart, watching the birds and squirrels out her front window, cooking pound cakes, watching Wheel of Fortune and Saturday night Mollie B. Polka Party. She especially loved traveling to see the “grands” and talking to anyone who would listen about her children and grandchildren (the pride of her life). In recent years, she had a renewing of her faith, evidenced by a hunger for God’s word and an excitement for Bible study and attending her church. She was deeply humbled by His many blessings in her life and extremely grateful for His Great Grace!

She is proceeded in death by her daughter Kimberly Shouppe; grandson, Tyler Goetter; her father, Price Burch; brother, Lynwood Burch; sister Lavern Taylor; first husband John W. Shouppe and second husband Johnnie Simmons.

Surviving relatives include her daughter Abby (Glenn) Goetter of McDavid, Florida; sons, Greg (Gail) Shouppe of Marianna, Florida, and Joe Shouppe of Cottondale, Florida. Her mother, Mattie Connor of Greenwood, Florida; sister Hazel (Lloyd) Russ of Chipley, Florida and brother, Wendell (Lynn) Burch of Dothan, Alabama; sister-in-Law, Linda Burch of Marianna, Florida, eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and many more relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at New Hope Baptist Church in Marianna with burial to follow in the Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Cemetery in Cottondale. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
