Explaining the needs of Washington County, County Commission Chairman Tray Hawkins, accompanied by fellow Washington County Commissioner Todd Abbott, welcomed Governor Rick Scott to Chipley on Monday evening, August 13, 2018.
The event was an opportunity for the public to meet with Scott, currently campaigning for the United States Senate seat currently occupied by Democrat Senator Bill Nelson.
Recently endorsed by former Florida Speaker of the House Allan Bense, Florida Representative Brad Drake and Washington County School Board member Terry Ellis, along with the Republican Party and a host of business owners and community leaders, Todd Abbott, a Washington County Commissioner for the past eight years, has been a part of the team of County Commissioners that has successfully eliminated the bulk of Washington County debt, scheduled to be debt-free in this calendar year.
Washington County Commissioners Steve Joiner and Charles Kent, along with County Administrator Jeff Massey were also in attendance, part of the unified team which has successfully petitioned Scott and the State Legislature for some much-needed improvements in Washington County.
‘We have done our job, spent time in Tallahassee letting our representatives know what our needs are, and Washington County will reap the rewards of this diligence over the next few years, as long as we continue to be good stewards of our tax monies’, said Chairman Tray Hawkins.
‘We are proud of the work we have done’, said Abbott, ‘We have successfully balanced the County budget, we are running the County like a business, and the results are hard to ignore’.
Also present at the event were members of the business community, the Washington County Republican Party and representatives from the local chamber of commerce.
