The Council was also presented another “wish list”  by the Community in Action group represented by Mac Campbell at the meeting.   Campbell said the projects they want to see addressed have been long awaited by the community.  According to Campbell,  the Chipley Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is willing to fund a number of the items sought on the list, which could include bus shelters, lighting problems, sidewalks, inadequate parking, pedestrian parking, needed traffic signs, a location to honor community leaders, updated equipment at Gilmore Park, and a Veterans Memorial Park.  Campbell said while CRA officials have indicated an interest in working with the group on the projects,  they also stress they would need approval from the City before launching any work.

Chipley City Administrator Dan Miner pointed out that lighting problems in the area are already being addressed by Gulf Power and the sidewalk situation is being addressed by the City.

Miner also announced the City is developing a Sign Ordinance Committee and is looking for those interested in serving on the committee.  He said initial intention is to have the committee members meet every couple of weeks.

Before ending Tuesday night’s meeting the city administrator informed councilmembers that the City has gained title to the Mongovern Building and he is currently developing the cost to demolish the structure.  Miner did acknowledge that the city is also looking at other options regarding the historic building.

The City Council also approved the following agenda items at Tuesday night’s meeting:

  •  Abandonment of an unopened right-of-way at East Boulevard and Pecan Street.
