Chipley Garden Club announces Sept. 22nd Scarecrow Building Contest ………………….

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the Scarecrow Field will open for viewing at 10 a.m.

 

The 7th Annual Scarecrow Building Contest hosted by the Chipley Garden Club is open to all entrants.  All you have to do is construct a scarecrow and get your entry to the display site at the Farmers Market Pavilion at the Old Train Depot in Historic Downtown Chipley the morning of this popular event.

 

The following rules apply:

 

  • A completed entry form must be turned in at registration on Sept. 22nd.  The registration form and rules are availalbe at the Washington County History Museum, Washington County Public Library – Chipley Branch, or online at www.washingtoncountyhistoricalsociety.org, or by calling 850-260-4049.

 

  • An entry fee of $5.00 per site will be collected at registration on the day of the event. (Cash only, please!)

 

  • One category per entry must be selected upon registration.  The three categories are:  Youth (under 18 years of age), Adult, or Business/Group.

 

  • Set up will be at the Chipley Farmers Market Pavilion/Washington County Historical Society Museum in downtown Chipley between 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22nd  Sites will be assigned at registration.

 

  • Scarecrows must be free-standing, self-supporting, or sitting.  Entrants are responsible for providing all supports/seating for their entry.  You cannot dig holes in the lawn.  One promational/information sign no larger than 16×20 may be included in each display.

 

  • Judging will take place on Sept. 22nd between Noon and 1 p.m.  The public may vote for ‘People’s Choice’ between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. 

 

  • The ‘Garden Club Special’ will be chosen by the Chipley Garden Club.  Club members and their families are not eligible for the award.‘Garden Club Special’ award.

 

  • Winners will be announced and awards presented at 2 p.m. by the Chipley Garden Club.  You do not have to be present to win.  All decisions are final.  Names of the winning entries will be posted at the Washington County Historical Society for one week following the event.

 

  • Awards for each category are as follows: 

 

  •  Youth Category:  1st Place – $75/ribbon and 2nd Place – $50/certificate               
  •  Adult Category: 1st Place $75/ribbon and 2nd Place $50/certificate         
  •  Business/Club Category:  1st Place:  Trophy and Certificate  and 2nd Place Certificate             
  •  People’s Choice:   $50 and Certificate       
  •  Garden Club Special   $25 and Certificate             
  •   Other categories include Funniest, Recycling, Most Unusual, Scariest, Sweetest, Most Patriotic, Most Traditional, and maybe more.

 

  •  Tickets to vote for the ‘People’s Choice’ Award recipient are 2 for $1.00 and voting will take place between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the day of the event.

 

  •   Entrants will be responsible for removal of their scarecrow after 3 p.m. on the day of the event.  Unclaimed scarecrows will be relocated and/or disposed of on Monday, Sept. 24th.
