Zoë Shafer named Distinguished Young Woman of Washington County 2019 ……………………………

On Saturday, August 18, 2018, Zoë Shafer, was named the Distinguished Young Woman of Washington County 2019 at the Distinguished Young Women of Washington County scholarship program.  The participants were evaluated in the categories of Scholastics (25%), Interview (25%), Talent (20%), Fitness (15%), and Self-Expression (15%). 

 

Zoë, a senior at Holmes County High School, won a total of $1,200.00 in cash scholarships and has the honor of representing Washington County at the Distinguished Young Women of Florida program in Fort Walton Beach in February.  She won Overall awards in Scholastics, Interview, Fitness and Self-Expression and was the Honoree in Talent.

 

Shanaray Sheffield, a senior at Vernon High School, received a total of $325.00 for her Honoree awards in Scholastics and Interview.  She was also selected as the DYW Spirit Winner.  Karmin Compton, a senior at Vernon High School was awarded a total of $350.00 for her Honoree awards in Fitness and Self-Expression and was the Overall Talent winner.  Aniko McFather, a senior at Vernon Hi

gh School, was chosen as the DYW Essay winner and was awarded a $125.00 cash scholarship.

 

Throughout the next year, Zoë will represent Washington County at various public events and serve as a role model to young people by spreading the program’s national outreach message of “Be Your Best Self.” The outreach program is designed to encourage self-esteem and excellence in all young people through its five principles: Be Healthy, Be Involved, Be Studious, Be Ambitious, and Be Responsible.
