Attorney General Bondi’s Weekly Briefing
This week, Florida encountered its first threatening storm system of hurricane season, with Tropical Storm Gordon forming over the Florida Keys and making landfall west of the Alabama-Mississippi border.
While the storm never reached hurricane strength, some parts of the Florida Panhandle experienced harsh winds and several inches of rain.
September is National Preparedness Month and with Hurricane Florence already formed in the Atlantic Ocean along with another tropical system, it’s important to be prepared. I encourage everyone to prepare now for potential storms by checking out myHurricane Preparedness Guide.
Along with important information on how to stay safe this hurricane season, the guide provides support and advice on how to deal with potential storm-related scams. Price gouging, tree-removal and home repair scams are a few of the fraudulent schemes that could pop up before and after hurricanes. By preparing now, it decreases the chances that you will become a victim.
If anyone suspects a scam this hurricane season, it should be reported to the my office at 1(866) 9NO-SCAM or by filing a complaint online at MyFloridaLegal.com. |
