MARIANNA, FLA – Jackson County has a new organization charged with economic development. The Jackson County Economic Development Committee recently launched with a new brand, website, and mission. The new organization is a public/private partnership funded primarily by the Jackson County Board of County Commissioners.
Previously, the economic development mission in Jackson County fell to Opportunity Florida as part of the Northwest Florida Rural Area of Opportunity.
“Counties and cities across the country are stepping up their economic development game, especially in the Southeast,” says Greg Miller, the organization’s new Executive Director. “It’s critical for Jackson County to be competitive or we’ll be left behind.” Mr. Miller brings considerable experience to the committee, having spent the last 19-plus years working in both international trade and economic development, beginning in 1999 for Enterprise Florida as a Regional Manager.
The committee’s primary focus will be job creation through attracting new businesses to the county and supporting retention and expansion of existing businesses. Target industries include manufacturing — large and small, distribution centers, processing centers, hotels, restaurants, retail, medical, agriculture, tourism, plus state and federal jobs.
Companies considering relocating or expanding to a new area look to the local economic development team to provide critical assistance and information, including site options, local regulations, available incentives, workforce availability, and many other details. Essentially, Jackson EDC will be the business sales team for Jackson County.
Beyond the day to day promotion to potential new companies, Jackson EDC will work to foster a better environment for business growth in the county by addressing all the relevant factors, including education, infrastructure, regulations, and quality of life.
Creating and sustaining good jobs for our county is a critical component of a prosperous economy and community. Jackson EDC and Jackson County are open for business.
