Lynn Gothard received an apology from Wausau Mayor Roger Hagan at Thursday night’s meeting of the Wausau Town Council and the Mayor announced that the Town had reached a $25,000 settlement with Gothard.

Gothard started civil action against the Town and Volunteer Fire Chief Sam Rudd over his “improper rejection of Gothard’s advertisement” in a publication put out by fire department.

The Town also agreed to adopt a policy appropriate to ensure that future restrictions on advertisements are viewpoint neutral and otherwise in compliance with the First Amendment to the United States Constitution.

In separate action at the meeting, the Wausau Town Council reluctantly accepted the resignation of Councilman Dewayne Carter effective Dec. 1, 2018.  Carter announced he would be going to Brazil to start a ministry.
