Orlando, Fla. – The Ron DeSantis for Governor Campaign today applauded the launch of the Hope Scholarship that will offer Florida students a brighter future in the Sunshine State.
“I’m proud to see the Hope Scholarship go into effect, which will give more Florida students access to a great education,” said DeSantis. “The Hope Scholarship offers students who are victims of bullying access to a safe and successful learning environment. I support initiatives like the Hope Scholarship and other school choice programs because they empower families to make the best educational decisions for their children.”
“My opponent, Andrew Gillum, wants to take away choice scholarships from more than 150,000 mostly poor, minority and disabled students who depend on them. That’s not right,” continued DeSantis.
“As Governor, I’ll make sure we support these programs and give every student the chance to live their dreams,” concluded DeSantis.
The Hope Scholarship gives parents of eligible students the opportunity to find a safer learning environment among private schools participating in the program. It also allows parents to transfer their child to another K-12 public school with available capacity within the school district, or to receive funding to transport the student to a public school in another school district.
Under the legislation passed by the Florida Legislature and signed into law by Governor Scott, those purchasing motor vehicles can now designate up to $105 in sales tax on those purchases to Step Up for Students, which will administer the scholarship.
