Washington County School Board gets reports on school damage from Hurricane Michael …………..

In a workshop session Monday afternoon members of the Washington County School Board received updates on hurricane-related damage each of the county’s schools. 

 

While the principals all reported some damge at their respective facilities, nomajor damage was reported.

 

The principals all praised the support they have received from the public.

 

Washington County schools are accepting gift cards to help students replace items lost to the storm and all schools are accepting clothes for their respective clothes closets to assist their students in replacing items.

 

During the workshop it was pointed out that hurricane-displaced out-of-county students are enrolling in Washington County schools.

 

Following the workshop, School Board members Susan Roberts, Vann Brock and Dr. Lou Cleveland held a short Special Board Meeting and approved the following items:

 

  •  Contract with Wheeler EMC to handle disaster recovery for the School District.
  •  Purchase order for thurman Construction for removal of the building next to the old Chipley High School.
  •  Memorandum of Agreement with the City of Chipley for the use of the PAEC Tower Site.  The City of Chipley lost their tower during Hurricane Michael.
