Released by Gov. Rick Scott’s Office
As of 12 p.m., there are 5,446 customers without power, down from 400,000 on October 11, the day following Hurricane Michael’s landfall. This means that more than 98 percent of homes and businesses who lost power and have the ability to receive power have had their power restored. This includes full power restoration to Mexico Beach, one of the hardest hit areas in the state, by Duke Energy.
Please see a statement below from Governor Rick Scott thanking power restoration workers and electric utility companies for their work to restore power to the Panhandle.
Governor Scott said, “Before Hurricane Michael made landfall, we knew how important it was to have power restored to homes and businesses as quickly as possible. Now, three weeks after this devastating storm made landfall, we are proud that utility companies have made tremendous progress at meeting the goals they set. I am also incredibly proud of all of the first responders, utility restoration workers, and state emergency personnel who came together to help those in need. Witnessing people come together to help one another following Michael has been one of my proudest moments as Governor. We will continue to keep the public updated and work until every customer has their power restored and every Floridian has fully recovered from Hurricane Michael.”
