Caryville author Shaneekqua McCutcheon was geust speaker at Thursday’s meeting of the Washington County Friends of the Library and told her audience how she learned to overcome some of the trials and tragedies of her childhood.
Talking about her new book, “Purpose in Pain, Cleaning Under the Rug”, McCutcheon described it as a testimony of a young girl growing up and being sexually abused for years right in her home.
The abuse did not leave her unscarred, but left her broken and scared, it left her feeling alone, and carrying around “a secret” that no one would believe, that spiraled into a life of suicide attempts, depression, and feelings of unworthiness.
The author said it reached the point that she didn’t want to live any more and noted, “What we don’t deal with, resurfaces.” McCuthcheon added, “Then God intervened.”
This book tells how Ms. McCuthcheon became a survivor of sexual abuse and gives a detailed account about the four years she endured such immense pain, but more importantly it gives a detailed account of how God restored her back to wholeness.
The four years she endured such immense pain, but more importantly it gives a detailed account of how God restored her back to wholeness. She is now using her past to help other people. She believes that “pain has one right, and that right is to hurt you, but pain does not have the right to stop you”.
The book is to give hope to someone dealing with pain and to encourage someone to know that pain can be a promotion, because God takes the tears that we are shedding and He waters us with them and helps us to grow.
McCuthcheon said the man involved was later arrested for doing to another child what he had done to her and she testified against him.
