In the span of two weeks we experienced some of the most extreme highs and lows in recent memory. Having just finished hosting our very successful 20th Oktoberfest, we had very little time to celebrate and thank everyone who participated before being forced to hurriedly prepare for Hurricane Michael, a category 4 storm that caused major destruction in Leon and neighboring counties 10 days later.
Every component of our government, our agency and our community responded amazingly and everyone has been working tirelessly to help our seniors put this horrible weather event behind them. The unfailing spirit of this community is just another example of why Tallahassee is such an incredibly wonderful place to live and work.
Throughout the year, Elder Care Services helps thousands of seniors with the basics — a nutritious meal, personal care, and crisis resolution. For many seniors on very low fixed incomes, celebrating the holidays with any fanfare is a luxury they cannot afford.
Elder Elf is an annual program that invites businesses, civic organizations, and individuals to partner with ECS to “adopt” seniors who are in need of holiday cheer. In most cases, these seniors would not receive any gifts or attention during the holidays if it were not for our generous community acting as special holiday “elves.”
We need your help! If you’re interested in adopting one of our clients for the Holidays please complete this form. You will be matched with a senior and sent a wish list of presents and essential items. Gifts may either be dropped off at the Elder Care office or taken directly to the senior.
Opportunities are also available for groups such as businesses, civic organizations, or student associations.

Elder Care Services would not be the successful nonprofit agency it is today without the ongoing and longstanding support from our community partners. From Oktoberfest donors to daily Meals on Wheels volunteer drivers, Elder Care could not help Leon County’s most vulnerable seniors age in the comfort of their own homes or bring relief to over-stressed caregivers.
This month, keep an eye on our social media page as we highlight those who have strengthened the support system for our community’s senior population. And, if you haven’t already, like our page to stay up to date on all things Elder Care.
