Amid applause, congratulatory handshakes and smiles, Washington County, Florida District 4 Commissioner Todd Abbott was sworn into office by County Judge Colby Peel for an historic third term, as seen in these photos by Real Florida Media, a subsidiary of The Goulding Agency in Chipley, Florida.

‘I am humbled by the response of the people of Washington County, said Todd Abbott on Tuesday morning, November 20, 2018, as the bible upon which Abbott swore his oath was held by Pastor Mike Orr and his four-year-old granddaughter Isla, ‘and I am proud to be here today, before my fellow Commissioners, our constituents and my family’.

Abbott, along with those fellow Commissioners, were on call during the non-stop activities associated with the state of emergency accompanying Hurricane Michael and the efforts to restore utilities, infrastructure and more importantly, confidence, following the devastation of the October 10 storm, one of the worst in the history of the area.

Todd Abbott’s performance in office obviously spoke volumes as he made history in Washington County, Florida with his unprecedented third term win as County Commissioner, something which has not been done in recent memory in this rural northwest Florida county.

‘I believe that it is the prevailing spirit of teamwork, something we have not enjoyed to a large extent on the Washington County Commission, that has enabled us to reduce debt and forge long-term plans for economic growth in Washington County’, says Abbott, ‘and the voters want this kind of progress’.

‘We look forward to the next few years, as we continue to improve the quality of life, economic viability and overall bright future of Washington County.  We need to continue to roll up our sleeves and do what has to be done, every day, and good things will continue to be the reward’.

Also sworn in at the beginning of today’s meeting was Commissioner Charles Kent, who walked into a second term with no opposition.
