Members of the Chipley City Council voted Thursday night during a Special Meeting to proceed with plans to locate a new $13.4 million sewage disposal site on 180 to 200 acres off Pike Pond Road about 12 miles southeast of Chipley.
Before taking the vote, council members heard from a representative from Mott-MacDonald Engineering concerning plans for the facility and were told at the proposed location the city would solve their effluent disposal problems for about the next 50 years. Effluent would be piped from the City’s sewage treatment facility off State Park Road south of Chipley. Funding for the project will be repaid through grants and loans.
Council members were told the job of narrowing the search involved looking at more than 20 sites to find the right one with the proper soil to handle the effluent that that could reach 1.2 million gallons a day.
Council members also approved the following agenda items:
- CDBG Section 504 Grievance Procedure
- CDBG Procurement Policy
- Fiscal year 2017-2018 Budget Amendment
- WIOA National Dislocated Worker Grants
The Council member tabled action on the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Consent Order.
