Released by the Attorney General’s Office
Great news this week as crime in Florida continues to decline. According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement 2018 Semi-Annual Uniform Crime Report, violent and property crime rates dropped by eight percent statewide compared to the first six months of 2017. The report highlights a 10.8 percent decrease in robbery, a 7.2 percent fall in aggravated assault, an 18.2 percent reduction in burglary and a 6.4 percent decline in larceny. Florida’s falling crime rate is a testament to the hard work and selfless actions of our courageous law enforcement officers and dedicated prosecutors. These public servants work nights, weekends and holidays, putting themselves in harm’s way to keep us safe. Sadly, some of them never make it home. So far this year, nine Florida officers died in the line of duty. My heart breaks for their families and our entire law enforcement community over the loss of these heroes. We can never repay them, but we can recognize their sacrifice and continue to treat all law enforcement heroes with the admiration and respect they deserve. We are incredibly blessed to live in a thriving state with such dedicated, selfless law enforcement officers. Florida is stronger and safer because of these heroes. The next time you see an officer, even if they are writing you a ticket, please thank them for serving and making our great state of Florida a better place to live. |
