Released by the Florida Highway Patrol
The Florida Highway Patrol reports no apparent injuries to children in a Dec. 4th crash at County Road 177 and County Road 160. However, Jason French of Bonifay, driver of of the 1996 Ford Ranger truck involved in the accident, did receive serious injuries and was transported to a Dothan, Alabama medical facility.
In their news release the FHP said Crystal Johnson, of Bonifay, Florida, was driving a Holmes County school bus westbound on CR 160 at the time of the accident. The driver had stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of CR 177. French was traveling northbound on CR 177. When Johnson began a left turn onto CR 177, she violated the right-of-way of the truck driven by French. The front of the truck collided with the left side of the school bus at the rear axle. The school bus came to final rest facing south, blocking the southbound lane of CR 177. The truck then rotated county clockwise and came to final rest facing westward, blocking the northbound lane of CR 177.
Johnson was charged with violation of right-of-way from stop sign.
The FHP reports there were nine chidlren on the school bus, and none of the children reported any notable injuries. The children were then walked across the roadway to the Bethlehm School after they were checked out.
