Ballard Sills Bishop, age 89, of Marianna, Florida,  passed away on Monday, December 3, 2018 at his residence. He was born in Dellwood, Florida on December 4, 1928 to the late Thomas Bernard and Wilma Amelia Sills Bishop. Ballard had been a resident of Marianna since 1993 and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a passion for genealogy. He retired from the United States Army after 22 years of service. During his military career Ballard served in the Korean Conflict with 330 Communications Recon Company as a corporal, he then served in Vietnam War as a Staff Sergeant. Ballard was in the Air Force for three years; he had 12 years of medical and field radio training. He also served in Hawaii, Guam, and Germany.

Ballard was preceded in death by his first wife Mikasu Bishop of Japan and his second wife, Eunice Lavelle Wester Bishop of Marianna, Florida; one brother and one sister.

He is survived by his step daughter, Cheryl Pettus; nieces and nephews, Patricia Williamson, Freddy Ray Williamson, Danny Williamson, Debra Sue Williamson, Craig Bishop, Karyn Bishop, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Marianna . Interment will follow at the Shady Grove Cemetery in Grand Ridge. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Civil War Trust.
