Members of the Washington County School Board met in workshop session earlier this week to begin discussing the estimated $1.5 million to $2.3 million in damages at local school facilities the county is facing as a result of Hurricane Michael.
While Washington County School Superintendent Joe Taylor said he feels the lower cost figures better reflect local damages, he thinks repair/cleanup is going to take several years and asked school board members to come to the Dec. 10th Board Meeting prepared to address a variety of issues.
Taylor gave school board members printed information regarding damages and associated costs at the various county schools and asked that they make themselves familiar with that information before next week’s board meeting.
Taylor noted that the local school board will have to address the issues of hiring architects and engineers to look at and determine needed repairs and added that immediate attention is being given to roof problems (repair and replacement).
