Panama City, FL – Students on Gulf Coast State College’s Cybersecurity demonstration and competition team, Corps Tigris, recently earned a third place win in the Cyber Competition at the ITEN Wired Conference in Pensacola Beach, Florida. The team, comprised of Destiny Brady, Trevor Berry, Kaleb Finnell, Steven Szmyr and Sean Trax, fought against five other student groups from technical colleges and high schools.

During the competition, the students worked collaboratively to detect and respond to information security incidents and threats in a live simulation. The skills and knowledge they displayed are comparable to those performed by a Security Operations Center Analyst within the industry.

Competitions such as these show that the students in GCSC’s Network System Technology Program are well prepared for the skills required by today’s cybersecurity workforce. According to Melanie Boyd, Business & Technology Division Chair and faculty advisor to Corps Tigris, said, “I’m not surprised that these students won. They are truly amazing!”
