Governor-elect Ron DeSantis Announces Melinda Miguel as Chief Inspector General

 Tallahassee, Fla. – Governor-elect Ron DeSantis today announced that Melinda Miguel has been selected to serve as the Chief Inspector General for the DeSantis-Nuñez Administration.    “Accountability and transparency are critically important to me and are key components to running state government efficiently and fairly,” said Governor-elect DeSantis. “I have asked Melinda Miguel, who is highly respected and who I know will hold our state government to the highest of standards, to serve as Chief Inspector General for our administration. Having previously served in the inspector general role, Melinda knows best practices and has the professional auditing and investigative skills needed to ensure Florida is running smoothly and operating with the highest degree of integrity.”   Melinda Miguel, Chief Inspector General Since 2000, Miguel has served as an inspector general in multiple capacities, including inspector general at the Government Publishing Office, deputy inspector general at the Architect of the Capitol, chief inspector general of the State of Florida under two Governors, and inspector general of the Florida State Board of Administration, Florida Attorney General’s Office, Florida Department of Education and the Florida Department of Elder Affairs. Miguel is a certified inspector general, certified financial services auditor, certified business manager, certified internal controls auditor, certified cybercrimes investigator, certified construction auditor, certified Florida contract manager, and a certified project management professional. She also was previously a certified government financial manager and certified fraud examiner.   In addition to her various inspector general roles, Miguel has served as the bureau chief of Auditing and Tax Collection for the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco for the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation, supervisory investigator and auditor in the Office of Inspector General for the Florida Lottery, audit committee member and chair for the State Board of Administration, senior vice president at-large for the National Executive Committee of the Association of Government Accountants, past regional vice president for the Gulf Coast Region of the Association of Government Accountants, director-at-large and education committee chair for the Tallahassee Chapter of the Association of Government Accountants and member of their National Partnership Steering Committee, advisor to the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators, past national president and member of the National Executive Committee, chair of the Legislative Issues Committee and member of the Professional Standards Committee of the Association of Inspectors General, past chair of the Florida Audit Forum, past president of the Tallahassee Chapter of the Institute for Internal Auditors, and president of the Tallahassee Chapter of the Federal Bureau of Investigations Citizens Academy Alumni Association. Miguel holds a Master’s Certificate in Local Government Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Florida State University.     ###
