Not willing to name the individual interested in rebuilding/renovating the old Mongoven Building in Historic Downtown Chipley, Dan Miner, Chipley City Administrator, talked with the Chipley City Council Thursday night about looking at the possibility of the City selling the 1904 building.
Miner and the council members talked with Attorney Clay Milton about the city-owned structure being offered for sale in a bidding situation. Milton was directed to look at how the sale could be consumated to the City’s benefit. He will report back at next Tuesday night’s regular monthly council meeting.
Councilwoman Linda Cain spoke out in favor of selling the building to be renovated, commenting, “It’s a landmark.”
Councilmembers will also begin looking at a “noise ordinance” at next week’s meeting. Councilmembers Linda Cain and Kevin Russell raised the need for an ordinance that would assist the Police Department when they receive calls about loud noises in various neighborhoods around the city.
They referred to several instances when the police had been asked to do something about loud outside parties late at night and said that since the City of Chipley had no noise ordinance there was nothing to enforce.
Councilman Russell also questioned why no one from the Chipley Redevelopment Agency (CRA) was at the workshop to report on use of the Tree Removal Grants being issued by the agency. Voicing his concern, Russell said it had been several months since the had received a report and he would like to get monthly reports from the agency.
Updating the council on Hurricane Michael debris cleanup, Miner said the city is looking a lot better, but that cleanup was just a slow process. He said he expects there will be isolated cases that might not get cleaned up immediately, but he expected most of the work to be completed by Spring.
