Panama City, FL – The Enactus Team at Gulf Coast State College has partnered with FlexJobs to bring 35 remote jobs and training to this area with funding from a BNY Mellon Foundation Grant. Called “Reboot 850,” the student-led initiative is a training program designed to equip participants with the skills to transition from on-site work into a remote work setting.
“We are launching this program now and hope to have the first group of participants successfully complete the training program by February 2019,” said student Alexis Winslow, President of Enactus GCSC. Participants who complete the training will receive a one-year membership to the FlexJobs platform, two 30-minute career coaching sessions with professional career coaches, and an invitation to the online national job fair for remote workers on February 7, 2019.

Winslow, who is also a BNY Enactus Student Fellow, applied for the $5,000 grant last spring and was one of only three applicants who received funding. Enactus members hope that by providing the necessary training and skills employers are looking for in candidates, they can help local workers land successful remote work opportunities at the job fair in February. Dr. Emmanuel Hernandez, faculty advisor of Enactus GCSC, is proud of his students and what they are setting out to accomplish. “We are looking forward to creating a new economic development strategy out of this pilot program, just as Eastern Kentucky did with the Teleworks USA program. Teleworks USA has created 2,000 remote work jobs so far,” he said.
