AVID is an acronym for Advancement Via Individual Determination, a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college.
Placing special emphasis on growing writing, critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills, the program gives middle-of-the-road students extra support as they prepare for college.
Roulhac Middle School in Chipley, Florida was a beneficiary of the program when it was embraced by the Washington County School District, and has experienced success in the lives of middle school students.
Jiranda White, an AVID and Language Arts teacher at Roulhac Middle School, and recently named as Teacher Of The Year at that school, spent a day in December 2018 on the campus of Florida Panhandle Technical College, in Studio B, the campus media production facility, taping interviews with eleven of her AVID students and allowing them the opportunity to express their reaction to the program.
Without exception, those students explained, in their own words, a positive and life-changing experience which benefited them, their families, fellow students and staff, as seen in the video clips (below), part of a showcase educational presentation event to be held on the Roulhac campus on Wednesday, January 23, 2019.
