On Wednesday, January 23, 2019, Roulhac Middle School in Chipley, Florida hosted a showcase, inviting the Washington County School District representatives, including Superintendent of Schools Joe Taylor, along with regional educators and school staff and administration from neighboring counties, as seen in the video clip below.
The feature of the program was a highlighting of the AVID program, an acronym for Advancement Via Individual Determination, a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college.
Placing special emphasis on growing writing, critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills, the program gives middle-of-the-road students extra support as they prepare for college.
Jiranda White, AVID teacher at Roulhac Middle School in Chipley and eleven of her AVID students recently spent time in Studio B, the media production facility on the campus of Florida Panhandle Technical College in Chipley, to film a series of video clips expounding the virtues of the program.
The group of students along with White spoke about the value and rewards of the AVID program in the promotional videos, and the finished product was unveiled at Wednesday’s showcase event.
Jiranda White, who also teaches Language Arts at Roulhac Middle School, and was recently named as Teacher Of The Year at that school, expressed thanks to the School District as well as Florida Panhandle Technical College for partnering toward the success of the AVID program.
