Chipley Council gave the go-ahead for an April 17 Easter Egg Hunt ……………….

In their regular monthly workshop Thursday evening the Chipley City Council members indicated they would support plans for an Easter Egg Hunt April 17th at Shivers Park.

Also placed on their agenda for next Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting were the following:

  • Approval of Resolution No. 19-19 – Capital City Bank Loan – Police Department. This loan would fund the purchase of a 2019 Dodge Charger Car in the amount of $30,049.00 with an interest rate of 3.48%.
  • Approval of FDEO CDBG Grant Administration Award and Contract – Fred Fox Enterprises, Inc. This would award the FDEO CDBG Administration contract to Fred Fox Enterprises, Inc. in the amount of $52,000.00
  • Approval of FDEO CDBG Grant Engineering Services Award
  • Approval of FDEP Consent Order
  • Approval of P&Z Recommendation – Obert Funeral Home – Shannon Dale Obert, 761 Main St. Parcel # 00-1280-0000. This recommendation is for the development of a funeral home.
  • Approval of Recreation Advisory Committee Members – Mack Campbell and Howard Bolton. This would approve two new committee members with a 2 year term.
Chipley Fire Chief Floyd Aycock

Dealing with other issues, council members heard from Fire Chief Floyd Aycock who reported that cleanup is continuing, but added that everything is so wet it is causing problems with cleanup.

Council members were told that the City is seeking bids for asbestos cleanup at the Old Ice House located at the intersection of Hwy 77 and Hwy 90 in Chipley. Council members made it clear they want the removal job completed sooner, rather than later.

Attorney Clay Milton was present to discuss the Mongovern Building that the City is planning to sell. Milton said on Tuesday they plan to issue an “invitation to bid” and reminded the council members they are not bound to accept any bid that is received.

Ted Everett was also on hand to discuss the January 17 meeting of the Chipley Redevelopment Agency (CRA) where the following action was taken:

  1. Tree Removal Grant – 1350 Cypress Ave – W. Nelson approved for $500
  2. Building Interior Improvement Grant – 812 Main St – A. Hayes approved for up to $12,000
  3. Building Exterior Improvement Grant – 840 Main St – L Carlisle Nelson tabled for further clarification
