The increase of population in the county due to the aftermath of Hurricane Michael has also increased the number of thefts of property such as, trailers, skid steers, atvs, tools and other items.
There has also been an increase of burglaries and vehicle thefts.
A lot of these thefts are due to workers in the area leaving equipment and tools unattended along the roads or in staging areas at night or when not in use.
To help prevent these thefts the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office recommends keeping vehicles locked and not leaving valuables in them, keep equipment and tools in secure and well lighted areas. When possible keep a check on your property. These checks could be increased by recruiting or forming a group of relatives or friends to help keep a check on your and their property.
If you have any information of any crime call the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at (850) 482-9648.
