Meeting in a Workshop Session on Feb. 21st, members of the Wausau Town Council centered their discussion on what they feel is becoming important – retaining the small town flavor of their community.
Town Council member Carol West said Wausau residents have expressed concern that the 4-laning of Hwy 77 through the town will destroy the “tone of the town” and want the council to develop a plan to retain “the uniqueness” of the community.
The council members agreed the 4-laning construction work will bring about some changes and will take awhile, so they will have some time to develop an overall plan.
The following suggestions were also put forward during the workshop:
- Placement of a monument honoring firefighters at the new fire department facilities.
- Development of a Town Square where the Possum Monument could be placed .
- Improved street lighting.
- Holding a volunteer clean-up day at the Wausau cemetery and possibly in other areas of the community.
